John Mayer

I went to see Dead & Company this weekend at Citi Field, NYC.  IT was a great show, and it was a friendly reminder to how amazing John Mayer is.  He is one of those artists that I feel like I am always defending, or trying to sell others on him... I feel like he gets a bad rep due to his career as a teenage pop star, but he is quite the rock star, and I have known that for years... I have seen him live many of times, as well as spent countless hours on YouTube seeing what kind of live performances I can dig up.  He is super talented.. I would say he ranks high on the metaphoric list of top guitarists, he can hang with the best of them.

After Mr. Mayer put out Continuum, it seems like he kind of went for the type of music he is passionate about.  Don't think "Your Body is a Wonderland", when you think of John Mayer...... He is so much more than that.  I have gotten a few friends to go see him live with me, that includes my husband, and other normal male beings :) --They were all so pleasantly surprised.  He deserves the respect and recognition for the talented artist he is.  He played the shit out of some Grateful Dead.  I totally got lost in the jams - had those mid song moments where your brought back to some lyrics, and you're like, "Oh right! that's what song this is."  Amazing.   It was a beautiful night, we saw the sun set over Citi field, there was a hint of a chill in the air that may have smelled mostly of herbs ;), and I was with my wild and free girl friend, taking it all in...

I, personally, think that the way he plays guitar, brings out how attractive he is.  I never was very attracted to him prior to knowing his guitar skills, but then once I saw him strummin'....Wow! :)  I am like that though... Musicians make me a little weak in the knees...Why is that? Is it the passion? Passion can be so beautiful...

Ben Howard

If you don't know who he is... you should definitely check him out.  I think this is a good first song to listen to:

He is one of those artists that I frequently revisit, play the living daylights out of his albums, and then tell myself it's time to let go and move on for a bit.... I am currently in a Ben Howard phase -- I have been listening to him almost exclusively for a couple of weeks now.  I have his CD loaded in my car, and I have also been listening to everything he has to offer on Spotify... His music has so much emotion and beauty to it.  He has it all: voice, lyrics, instrumentals, (not to mention he's somewhat of a dreamboat).  Shout out to the beautiful India Bourne (also crushworthy), the cellist / bassist / percussionists/ Vocalist  who usually plays alongside him

I was  introduced to Ben Howard by a lovely girl I met at a music festival.  She is from Canada, and moved to New York for a while.  She also dated one of my good friends, we have shared some great times together from camping, to music festivals, to running on the east river in NYC and making homemade juices..She is one of those people you meet and just click with quickly and easily.  Funny how that happens sometimes. She is a beautiful soul, back in Canada now - miss you, love you xx

We actually went to see him in concert together in New York City twice.  The first time was his first show in NYC, and it was such an experience, because he was just so happy to see a crowd, and that they knew all his songs, and that we were all singing along and cheering him on.  The show was just as exciting for him as it was for us.  It was beautiful -- he is very charismatic, passionate, and super talented. He plays the guitar and does some amazing drifting solos.  I think he is classified under folk music, but I find his sound to be unique - folky, with a touch of jam band, and some classical influences. It's hard to pinpoint, but the closest comparison I could come up with is Ben Harper.  He has a very surfer boy, Jack Johnson-with-an-edge type of vibe.  His songs are artful and some are performed in a one-man-band type of manner, recording loops and layers - building the song right before your eyes.

Just check him out.... Give him a shot.

I am really into music, and hope to share some more of my favorites moving forward.

Summer Jams

Below you will find a few songs that have been getting me excited  this summer:

I obviously have some learning to do on how to embed videos on here, because I tried several techniques and the only one I could get to work was using the blogger function within youtube sharing.

But here they are to give you a little pep in your step this Monday afternoon.

Dedication

So here I am trying to keep my pledge to blog once a week. I usually am extremely anti-computer on the weekend....Today it is snowing, and I am probably going to be stranded in my house... I need to bake some Christmas cookies but I have to wait until my mother is done doing her Christmas baking.

This year I am not in the Holiday Spirit yet. I've done most of my Christmas shopping, I was on a mission today before the snow started falling HARD....I am hoping once I start to bake, maybe partake in a glass of wine and some Christmas tunage I will then be in the Spirit of Christmas FULL BLAST..... It's not that I am depressed or anything of the sort. It just simply doesn't FEEL like Christmas...

I keep getting interrupted by my family and that is one of the things I HAAAATe about being home when everyone else is.... otherwise I feel like I could be quite the homebody. Part of me was actually EXCITED that today was a snow day and Id be locked inside to putz around my house....

I recently purchased Jack Johnson's "En Concert" Special Edition Album and DVD Film..... I am OBSESSED!!! If you are a big JJ fan, I recommend you buy this. The songs on the album are amazing and the DVD is BEAUTIFUL! I always said I would love to MARRY Jack Johnson, and this has only CONFIRMED these feelings. He is just so "obtainable" and "real" - I feel like he is so chill and easy to hang out with. I would love to either be in his band, or just travel with them. They seem like such a fun, interesting, passionate bunch. Maybe I should see if they are hiring any roadies or anything hahaha... This is my mind.

I got my hair did yesterday. I always want to ask the people that work there if they have ever found a tick or anything "strange" in someone's hair / scalp. I never do though. This is again my mind. I also have often thoughts / feelings that I am going to dye young, or I am going to be unable to bear children, or thoughts of what if I just stepped on the gas and crashed my car into or off of whatever is in front of me....I also recently have a lot of thoughts about having a seizure, I don't know why, but I just think, "what if that happened right now"- Maybe it's a fear in me.......
